Quality inspector/ Setter required for a busy sheet metal engineering workshop.
About the Company:
Chasestead LTD is a Letchworth based company specialising in Prototypes & Low Volume Production Sheet Metal Pressings, Stampings and Fabrication to the Highest Quality, working in many different sectors. Customers include Ford motors, Lockheed Martin, Warner brothers and McLaren.ROLE:
- Chasestead is the market leaders and currently have an opening for a Quality Inspector to join their expanding team.
- Responsible for carrying out the inspection of models (assemblies, sub-assemblies, and individual components) in accordance with the specification given in the route cards.
- Assist with the scheduling of inspection work to meet agreed project resource plans with regular communication of schedules to the project Teams.
- Model Manufacturing Centre (MMC) Raise Concession Reports for submission and approval to Customers.
- Responsibilities - Coordinate Measurement Machines Completing and inspection of component and sub-assembly Reporting results.
- Final Inspection
- Programme new components on the CMM machines
- Run Parts and complete inspection reports to schedule.
- Visual batch check
- Feedback information to the manufacturing department
- Interim & First Off Inspection
- Maintain ISO9001-2000 and AS9100 Quality System
Requirements:
- Knowledge of using a creaform scanning system would be an advantage, training will be given to the right applicant.
- Monitor the progress and conduct training as appropriate of newly inducted or trainees Lead the technical development of the inspection capability including the inspection.
- Actively seek opportunities for Continuous Improvement of inspection procedures.
- Welding visual inspection / CSWIP knowledge would be an advantage.
- The ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
- Ability to program CMM bridge machinery/Romer Portable Scanner Arm/CMM
- Knowledge and experience of “PC-DMIS” & Delcam Power Inspect
- Automotive industry experience would be an advantage.
- Geometric tolerance knowledge
- Able to read engineering drawings.
- PPAP knowledge

As a Trainee CAD Technician, you will be required to prepare drawings from initial conception through to completion and you will play a key role in ensuring customer enquiries are processed accurately and efficiently. This entry-level role is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience to begin a career in the manufacturing or engineering sector.- Processing and recording customer enquiries.
- Produce accurate technical drawings and 3D models from initial concept to final design.
- Support the engineering team by preparing and modifying CAD drawings as required.
- Interpret technical specifications, customer requirements, and design briefs.
- Inputting and updating data into the ERP system.
- Assisting with the preparation of data for customer quotations.
- Managing, organising and interpreting customer CAD files and drawings.
- Checking material availability.
- General administrative support to the sales team.
Requirements:
- Actively seek opportunities for Continuous Improvement.
- Computer literate.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- A basic understanding of engineering or manufacturing is advantageous, but not essential.

- Welder Fabricator candidates must be able to read engineering drawings, understand tolerances / bend allowances / being experienced in / fabrication and sheet-metal machinery.
- Duties include Welding and fabrication in stainless steel, Aluminium, and mild steel material 1.0mm - 12mm thickness including pipework.
- The Ability to make assembly weld fixtures.
- MIG welding both sub and main assemblies either on a fabrication JIG or freehand.
- Sanding\Grinding components or assemblies to achieve the stated dimensions and finish.
Requirements:
- The role requires manual lifting so applicants should be fit and able.
- Actively seek opportunities for Continuous Improvement.
- Significant experience of thin gauge TIG & MIG welding
- Sheet Metal Fabrication experience
- Be able to fabricate Stainless steel, Aluminium and Mild steel.
- The ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
- City & Guilds Qualifications in welding and fabrication / Apprentice in Engineering would be an advantage.
